YSEL-Ethiopia students are
extremely lucky to have such a professorial assistant director her at camp.
Endalkachew Tesera not only is the assistant camp director, but is also a
professor of psychology and special education needs at Addis Ababa
University. As an evening
activity, Endalkachew has been giving lectures to our students on improving
academic skills and preparing for life at university. Endalkachew’s lectures covered important skills like note
taking, improving reading skills, organizing study time, and other tips on
being successful university students. “It is important for our students at this
age to begin thinking about university and preparing now,” says
Endalkachew. “These skills are
vital to be successful university students.” Many of the skills Endalkachew
presented in his lectures can be immediately applied here at the YSEL camp as
students have to manage their studies, reading, and different class
assignments. “It’s good we are
learning about these skills now so we are better prepared for the challenges of
college life when we get there,” commented Senait Zemenu about the
lectures. . While it is not an implied goal of the
program, having students continue their higher education is something we would
like YSEL students to aim for.
